Celebrating the UK’s urban green spaces and their wild inhabitants

engelm84

Peers for the Planet Chair, Baroness Hayman, joined a prestigious panel, alongside Ollie Olanipekun, Founder of the UK’s first birdwatching collective for people of colour Flock Together, and Fiona Shields, Head of Photography at The Guardian to judge Earthwatch Europe’s Wild Cities Photography Competition.

The competition opened in April 2023, and encouraged the public to submit engaging photos capturing the UK’s urban green spaces, the wildlife that calls them home and the positive impact that nature connection has on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Entrants to the competition were tasked with expressing a sense of hope for the future and a call to action to create more urban greenspaces. The 30 best submissions and winning images were announced on the 6th December.

Congratulations to all who entered the competition! Thank you for sharing such inspiring images of our much loved and vital urban wildlife and green spaces.

“The UK’s contribution in responding to the climate crisis will be measured not just in the quantity of emissions we reduce, but in the quality of the vision, innovation and leadership we provide."
