Fifty Peers and MPs have written to the energy secretary to urge the government in the "strongest possible terms" to block drilling at Rosebank - the UK's largest undeveloped oil field. The letter warns that the UK's international climate leadership is being severely undermined and if we are to have any chance of restoring it, then it is vitally important that Rosebank does not go ahead.

It comes after the government said it would issue hundreds of new licences for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea.

“The UK’s contribution in responding to the climate crisis will be measured not just in the quantity of emissions we reduce, but in the quality of the vision, innovation and leadership we provide."
