Ahead of the Spring Budget next week, P4P Peers joined cross-party Peers and MPs to urge the Chancellor to bring the 20% VAT rate for EV public charging in line with the 5% rate applied to home charging.

As 38% of households across the UK do not have access to off-street parking, the current 20% VAT rate for public EV charging means those living in terraced housing, flats and apartment blocks are unable to access more competitive home charging tariffs.

Equalising the VAT rate for public charging and home charging will ensure people who do not have access to off-street parking are not put off making the switch to electric vehicles and making an important contribution to meeting our net zero targets.
